GULF SHORES — Bama Beach Pickleball Club is spreading goodwill across the county by directing their generosity toward the furry inhabitants of Baldwin County.
The organization, established in 2018, donates its profits to various Baldwin County charities each year. This year, members wanted to focus on giving back to animals in the county.
“The financial success of the club in 2023 was largely due to the monies raised during the annual February tournament we run at the Foley Event Center,” Treasurer Sam Strite said. “The Snowbird Classic Tournament in February 2023 was a huge success when over 300 people participated.”
Willow Farms, a horse rescue and rehabilitation center in Loxley, will be receiving $2,000 from the club. Stray Love Foundation, an organization in Magnolia Springs that finds loving homes for dogs and cats, will get a $1,000 donation. Additionally, Share the Beach, an organization devoted to safeguarding nesting sea turtles in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, will receive $3,000. Lastly, Southern Star Search and Rescue, a recently established group in Foley specializing in locating missing persons in collaboration with law enforcement, will also receive financial support.
Strite noted that the decision to focus on these particular charities this year was influenced by the involvement of many club members as volunteers.
“Because so many of the members of Bama Beach participate as volunteers in the four charities donated to in January 2024, it was decided to donate to those charities,” Strite said. “In the past, other charities have received donations. For example, Impact100, Mary’s Shelter, Prodisee Pantry, Angie’s Dog House, Gastric Cancer Foundation and Christian Service Center. We have also donated equipment such as paddles, balls and nets to Foley Elementary School and to the Baldwin County middle schools to encourage participation in the sport.”
